Anterior interbody spinal fusion can give excellent results in the relief of pain emanating from an anterior source. However, use of bone graft alone may lead to complications due to displacement of the graft with accompanying collapse of the disc space.
The Hartshill Horseshoe™ is an interbody fusion device that is fully contained within the confines of the vertebral column, thus avoiding the potential interference with the overlying vessels.
Mechanical stability is restored at the time of surgery and in most cases there is no need for additional external support. The long term retention of bone graft and implant is assured with AO type titanium cancellous or cortical screws coupled with a deeply textured finish on the bone contacting faces of the implant. At the 12 month post operative review, 87% of cases were successfully fused.
